Backyard vegetable gardening can be so tricky

Children playing with toy construction vehicles in a grassy area near a brick building.

it feels like you need a degree to do it.

From choosing your materials to determining your layout, just getting started can feel overwhelming. And when all you get for your efforts is a tomato or two? It’s enough to make you want to throw in the trowel.

But you don’t have to
be a
master gardener to
grow a stunning, successful veggie garden

And you don’t need a big yard or
a ton of time to tend it, either.

You just need:

meet Elisa Mack

Garden Designer & Coach, aka Auntie M

Before gardening, I was a wigmaker and hair stylist in film and theater. I loved working with my hands and making something beautiful out of nothing. But an injury suddenly ended what I thought was my forever career.

I turned to gardening as a form of therapy and took as many classes as I could find. As my cultivation knowledge blossomed, I became passionate not only about growing my own food, but also reducing waste and my impact on the environment.

Today, I help people unearth new passions and forms of therapy in their own backyard...

No matter your skill set or yard size, all are welcome at Auntie M’s Garden. That includes newbies, DIYers, and – yes! – even those who are pressed for time.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. You can take our designs and run with them yourself, or you can recruit our help at any stage of the garden tending cycle.

And you, too, can make something beautiful out of nothing.

Let’s grow together.

There’s nothing more gratifying than passing on a lifelong love for the Earth to our kids.

Let’s grow!

I needed a design for garden beds

that were functional and attractive.

Two photos of wooden raised garden beds with lush green vegetables, surrounded by gravel. The background shows trees, sky, and a house. The photos have a polaroid-style border.

I didn’t know where to begin, and buying pre-fab felt boring.

I wanted a beautiful and functional vegetable garden — and knowledge about what to plant and how to care for it all.

Meeting Elisa, hearing about what she offered, and her knowledge and generosity in sharing it sealed the deal.

Everything was on time and exceeded expectations. I loved the plans, and the execution was flawless.

We are the envy of the neighborhood with our lush, productive garden each season. I feel like I am competent out there and have a good idea what to do to keep it going (though I will reach out if I need help again!!)”
